Designmatters Co-Founder & VP Dr. Mariana Amatullo will  discuss why and how a design approach can improve development practice. This talk brings together lessons from a set of case studies that involve the successful integration of designers in innovation teams and initiatives that focus on generating new ideas that create value at scale across products, processes, service models, technologies and partnerships for international development.

It will feature insights from Dr. Amatullo’s findings in a recent ethnographic study with the UNICEF Innovation Division and examples of successful collaborations she has overseen for more than a decade through the social innovation department of at ArtCenter College of Design, Designmatters. The talk will focus on insights about why integrating design upstream as a complementary approach to problem-solving in the innovation cycle can be effective in amplifying impact.
