A panel discussion on new and emergent design practices in the realm of social innovation and policy, inspired by the Designmatters publication LEAP Dialogues: Career Practices in Design for Social Innovation, curated by Dr. Mariana Amatullo, Co-founder and Vice President, Designmatters at ArtCenter College of Design, and Lead Editor of LEAP Dialogues.
Laura Forlano is an Assistant Professor of Design at the Institute of Design and Affiliated Faculty in the College of Architecture at Illinois Institute of Technology where she is Director of the Critical Futures Lab. Her research is focused on the intersection between emerging technologies, material practices and the future of cities; specifically, she writes about emergent forms of work, organizing and urbanism. One of her current projects focuses on driverless cars. She is co-editor with Marcus Foth, Christine Satchell and Martin Gibbs of From Social Butterfly to Engaged Citizen (MIT Press 2011). She received her Ph.D. in communications from Columbia University.
