Please join us in welcoming Dr. Carlene Fider to ArtCenter.
Dr. Fider will be joining us as Designmatters Guest Faculty for Spring 2021, participating in all Designmatters studios with lectures and critiques of student work throughout the 14 week term.
Dr. Carlene Olivia Fider is originally from the beautiful island of Jamaica, but moved to the United States to pursue graduate education in the areas of Marital and Family Therapy (MA) and Family Studies (PhD), both of which she obtained from Loma Linda University Health (LLUH). She is a Certified SYMBIS (Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts) Facilitator, and professor of Human Development at Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena, California. As a professor she has had the privilege to teach both undergraduate and graduate students. One of her goals is to support students in their academic journeys so that they can take the knowledge gained to the communities who need it most. Carlene is a published author and has many family science research interests which can be condensed into overall family health/functioning, development over the lifespan, and sustainable activism. When not involved in academic work, she is passionate about supporting efforts/organizations that have as their mission/purpose/goal social justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and advocacy for Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC), as well as experimenting with plant-based recipes. She is grateful to have been able to traveled to various parts of the world for pleasure, business, and service. These opportunities have provided her the ability to experience new cultures and new foods.
