Shortly after graduating from the Media Design Program at ArtCenter in 2008, I was very fortunate to have been approached by the Designmatters team to help with a new project for the US Geological Survey. Through our collaboration, I created a short motion graphics film called “Preparedness Now.” Based off of scientific data from a USGS earthquake scenario, the film depicted the physical, social, and economic consequences of a large earthquake in Southern California and served as a call to action for the public to prepare for “The Big One.”

Working with Designmatters was a truly incredible experience and it gave me a unique opportunity at an early point in my career to use my creative voice towards helping with a very good cause. Not only that, but Mariana, Elisa (former Designmatters Director) and their team were always extremely supportive and a joy to work with. They did an amazing job of creating publicity around “Preparedness Now” and pushed me into the spotlight, which really helped a lot to get me the momentum I needed to move forward with a career in motion graphics
Happy 15th anniversary Designmatters! Thank you so much for the opportunities you’ve given me and for all of the amazing work you do!
